Every city in the world located on a waterway that was used for an immigrant gateway has a neighborhood like La Boca in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This was the first stop for the many immigrants from Italy and all over Europe who arrived at the turn of the 20th century. The neighborhood has been preserved and is painted over and over again in the bright bold colors with blue doors and pink windows set into green walls. As a tourist, I went to sketch the buildings and then returned as a resident to do a serious drawing. From that drawing, I have created 5 fabrics for quilting, apparel and upholstery and then abstracted those drawings to create more contemporary patterns. I hope these images make you feel happy and energetic. Go visit La Boca in Buenos Aires.
